Track Name: Strangers in the Hot Night
It’s a hot night and I watch fireworks explode in the heights
and I sit here in the dark on the steps of Malcom X park
as I look back on last night

As night falls on Rock Creek, the lights of sixteenth
Flicker cross the ground, I kick and kick it out
As I head toward home, to the thump of reggaeton
Your path crosses mine; flashback to that last time:
My back’s against the wall, you say you want it all
you put the pressure on, but never do I withdraw

And it’s hard not to fight
When I pass you in the night, the last rays of light, flash in your eyes
And then you disappear just like we are
Strangers in the hot night
Out of sight
But not out of mind

I’ve got a bourbon spin from shots at the Raven
Get drunk but can’t forget ya, try to break but you won’t shake
Outside the choppers hum, in the park the hippies drum
I stop and stare at the monuments of Washington
And then on U street you run back into me
You and your new friends, we lock eyes and it begins

And it’s hard not to fight
When I pass you in the night, the last rays of light, flash in your eyes
And then you disappear just like we are
Strangers in the hot night
Out of sight
But not out of mind

I turn the corner and keep running
I turn the corner and keep running
I start to stumble but keep running
Get up, I get, I get down (2x)
But I see you all around town
I get up, I get, I get down
You’re out of sight, not out of mind

And it’s hard not to fight
When I pass you in the night, the last rays of light, flash in your eyes
And then we disappear just like we are
Strangers in the hot night
Out of sight
But not out of mind

It’s a hot night and I watch fireworks explode in the heights
and I sit here in the dark on the steps of Malcom X park
as I look back on last night
Track Name: Piedmont
Darling, sip your midnight wine
Tonight might be the last time
I hold you, angel of the piedmont
Raven hair like the darkest night
Lips stained with deep red wine
Merlot, vine of the piedmont
Kiss me under a southern pine
Kiss me as the last stars shine
Wrapped together like a ball of twine

This is the fall line
This is where all rivers break
And this might be our last night
What a fitting place
It’ll be a bittersweet morning when we wake

So give me beauty, warm and fine
Give me music, give me wine
Give me love, hand in mine
As we cross the fall line

Darling play your mandolin
Sing for me that song again
Your voice is a precious gem of the piedmont
The two of us by the Eno River
The moon above us like an almond sliver
That vision still makes me shiver when it’s conjured
The fire yearns for dry timber
Your eyes burn when you remember
Read me our future in the embers

This is the fall line
This is where all rivers break
And this might be our last night
What a fitting place
Then we'll run away like a freight train.

So give me beauty, warm and fine
Give me music, give me wine
Give me love, hand in mine
As we cross the fall line

All rivers break, all mornings wake
All love don't make it through
Some buildings shake, you feel me quake
As I sing this song to you
All rivers break, all mornings wake
All love don't make it through
Track Name: Pistol
Whenever I get home I feel the loneliness
Whenever I get home I feel the emptiness
So I put a good record on but my mood still won’t lift
I go on a real long run, but I can’t out run this

Cus when I hold you it still burns, you’re like a record that will not turn
You’re just a headlight on the road—you lit my way and then passed on

But I miss you, as cruel as you are
You’re a pistol just waiting to fire
And if you can't pull the trigger why can't I
Just fire?

Whenever I wake up I feel the loneliness
Whenever I wake up I know I’ve lost somethin’
I reach out in the pitch-dark room but I can’t feel your skin
I walk toward the window to, let good sunlight in.

Cus when I hold you it still burns, you’re like a record that will not turn
You’re just a headlight on the road—you lit my way and then passed on

But I miss you, as cruel as you are
You’re a pistol just waiting to fire
And if you can't pull the trigger why can't I
Just fire?

The sun shines down on you
The sun shines down on me
Track Name: Bolin Creek
As I look at all of my days
I times I was righteous at others insane
So I walk to the river bank
I took off both my shoes
I jumped in and sang

I was born a whole new man today
I was born a whole new man today
By the river where I bathe
Where I pass my days
I was born a whole new man today

As I lay upon that shore
I looked to the heavens I look up at my lord
As the sun dried my bones
I thought about Grandpa, cus’ Grandpa’s passed on

I was born a whole new man today
I was born a whole new man today
By the river where I bathe
Where I pass my days
I was born a whole new man today

But when my days have come to an end
And I watch my last setting sun
And all I aim to do is all that I’ve done--
I’m just the son of my father, and the father of my son

I was born a whole new man today
I was born a whole new man today
By the river where I bathe
Where I pass my days
I was born a whole new man today
I was born a whole new man today
Track Name: Since That Night
I drive an old pick up, I get real messed up
Now that you've left me baby, it's driving me crazy
I go to the saloon, I down a shot for you
I drink a lot of whiskey, I bet you hardly miss me

Now I've spent all this time
Waiting on a moment to arrive
Ever since that night when I got you wrong
Now I'm trying to get you right

I said some awful things, still got no diamond ring
But I'd like to win you back; what are the odds of that?
I drive an old pick up, I know I've messed up
Now that you've left me baby, it's driving me crazy

Now I've spent all this time
Waiting on a moment to arrive
Ever since that night when I got you wrong
Now I'm trying to get you right

I woke up Sunday morn
all of my clothes were torn
In the back of that pick up truck
and there was a coming storm
The first rains earthbound washed across my face
I fell down to the ground
and prayed and prayed I
find way to get me right.

Now I've spent all this time
Waiting on a moment to arrive
Ever since that night when I got you wrong
Now I'm trying to get you right
Track Name: Fog at Night
I roll over in the morning time
and you’re warm, tangled up in bed; you turn to me
Say, "come straight home when your journey is through"
So I walk out and the mood is right, two birds in a tall birch tree
Singing praise, singing about the glory of the world
I come out to a grassy knoll and I’m surrounded by burning trees
Leaves bright like love, footprints in the mud
Marking my path

I am young and my pockets are empty
But I get by with my wits
When I find out how strong my love is for you
I’m a roll in like the fog at night, and come straight home to you
I’m a roll in like the fog at night, and come straight home to you

Crossing the line to Virginia I heard tale of a mountain stream, haunted because
Once you bathe in it you will never leave
The night will fall and the moon will rise, and the cool waters lap at the banks
I had to go; I was there as twilight came
I fell into a hazy sleep, I was foggy with a fever dream
There was an eerie spell, I heard the river swell
And then the sky turned black

I am young and my pockets are empty
But I get by with my wits
When I find out how strong my love is for you
I’m a roll in like the fog at night, and come straight home to you
I’m a roll in like the fog at night, and come straight home to you

But oh the thunder rolls
The lightning strikes
The rain falls
The water runs
Overflows the banks
It’s getting high
But honey I bathed in your river and I

I’m a roll in like the fog at night, and come straight home to you
I’m a roll in like the fog at night, and come straight home to you
Track Name: Casco Viejo
The sun goes down, the night’s just begun.
Tonight I’ll unravel the tales you’ve spun.
You toss on your cloak, turn the lights off on your way,
Shut the door and exit right out of your back alleyway.
You weave through town like a stranger in a maze.
To Casco Viejo from the waterfront promenade

You sit in a park in old Panama, a tall man strums a cool bossa nova,
On his old Cuban guitar as its starts to rain again.

I follow you to a courtyard by an old catholic church,
Where a busker counts his catch of bronze and copper.
You climb the bell tower and your torch flashes twice,
a ship in the harbor turns off its lights.
I stand below you by a moss covered almond tree
I feel the breeze; the bell chime quarter past three
and the toll rolls across the bay to Taboga Island

I stand in a park in old Panama, a tall man strums a cool bossa nova,
On his old Cuban guitar as its starts to rain again.
Across the bay is la Virgen del Carmen
again betrayed as you escape in the darkness
and now must stare out in vain as the pirates ride again.
Track Name: Dive too Deep
You caught me by the ankles as I tried to dive too deep
So I could breathe, so I could breathe
I was lost at hidden depths, took choking gulps of sea
You pulled me free and smiled at me

I’ve been lovin’ you; I’m not just passing through
I still feel the same
I’ve been lovin’ you; I’m not just passing through
I’ll always feel the flame

At times I tend to not read you, I do not catch your clues
I lose you, I lose sight of you
But hey babe you should know, I’m ready for change
I turn to you, please take the reigns

I’ve been lovin’ you; I’m not just passing through
I still feel the same
I’ve been lovin’ you; I’m not just passing through
I’ll always feel the flame

When I’m down when I’m blue
You’ve got the remedy each day
All I need, all I need is a single touch from you
and I breathe easy

I’ve been lovin’ you; I’m not just passing through
I still feel the same
I’ve been lovin’ you; I’m not just passing through
I’ll always feel the flame
Track Name: Latin American Bar Scene
You wore Che on your hat
Your black hair came up and hung from the back
Framed by the window in the tropical night
Stars above you like Christmas lights
But you didn’t come here to play pool or drink
Or talk to the man that offered you his seat
And I can’t quite decipher the Spanish you speak
Tell me, what brought you here–

We are lost, cut loose, and free to roam
And there’s no path to lead us home
Is this just a stepping stone
Or are we just lost in South America

A jazz singer wrote at the bar
Smoke curled around him in a silver arc
Notes of charango blew in from the street
He captured the scene in his poetry
But he was used to the ambiance
A professional by his nonchalance
We were like beggars how we breathed and we watched
Tell me, what brought you here–

We are lost, cut loose, and free to roam
And there’s no path to lead us home
Is this just a stepping stone
Or are we just lost in South America

A glass of rum by the pool table fell
Three men stood up, a few bystanders yelled
The couples that were swaying in time
Cleared like fog, they cut like lime
As we stepped out of the garden doorway
Quickly like others to avoid the fray
A homeless man held out his tattered tray

Tell me, where should we go–
We are lost, cut loose, and free to roam
And there’s no path to lead us home
Is this just a stepping stone
Or are we just lost in South America
